Foundation

All persons and organisations that contributed to the initial development of the Whiteflag Protocol did so disinterestedly. They want Whiteflag to be freely available as an open standard in the public domain, as a key enabler for global interoperability, and as a building block for further innovations for the benefit of humanity. For this reason, the Whiteflag Foundation is established.

Mission

It is the Whiteflag Foundation’s mission to maintain, promote and support the Whiteflag Protocol that allows parties involved in conflicts and disasters to globally and securely communicate using free, decentralized and open source technology.

Vision

It is envisioned that the Whiteflag Foundation is a neutral organisation that provides adoption of the Whiteflag Protocol in being a worldwide communication standard within conflicts and disasters.

Purpose and Goals

The Foundation’s purpose is the furthering and distribution of the Whiteflag Protocol in order to enable parties involved in conflicts and disasters to globally and securely communicate using free, decentralized and open source technology.

1. provisioning of public access to the Whiteflag Protocol specification

2. providing technical advice to ensure interoperability between Whiteflag Protocol implementations across different organisations

1. supporting a sustainable, independent and meritocratic community, including the establishment and operation of platforms for mutual support and assistance

2. performing configuration management of the Whiteflag Protocol specification to further develop and improve Whiteflag as an open standard

1. introducing, promoting and increasing awareness of the potential of the Whiteflag Protocol to relevant stakeholders

2. establish long-term engagement for non-profit purposes through cooperation (without economic promotion) and coordination with other organisations that pursue, at least partially, the same non-profit goals

3. providing resources for supporting its goals by sharing knowledge and experiences via education, training and related events

1. Duty of Care i.e. the board members must be active in organisational planning and decision making. Board members must exercise reasonable care when he or she makes a decision for the Foundation.

2. Duty of Loyalty i.e. the board members must never use information gained through his/her position for personal gain and must always act in the best interests of the Foundation. Board members must avoid conflicts of interest or the appearance of conflicts.

3. Duty of Obedience i.e. board members must be faithful to the Foundation’s mission. He or she cannot act in a way that is inconsistent with the Foundation’s goals. The public trusts the board to manage donated funds to fulfill the Foundation’s mission
